The Nichols School is a grades 5-12 independent preparatory day school located in Buffalo, New York. Nichols has an enrollment of over 500 students and a six person advancement team with two individuals workin in events and alumni relations.
One of the key hurdles in organizing a reunion lies in the diverse nature of the attendees, spanning different graduating classes over several decades. Crafting an event that resonates with both the class of '59 and the class of '19 poses a significant challenge. Similarly, navigating the registration process is complicated by the varying levels of digital familiarity among your alumni. While younger graduates are internet-savvy, older constituents may still be adapting to online platforms. So, the Nichols School faced a common problem: how to create a registration process that appealed to different segments of their alumni.
Addressing this challenge is no small feat. Many registration methods appear to tackle specific issues, only to introduce new complications. Nichols School required a comprehensive solution—a tool that could seamlessly address all their concerns. From optimizing registration for mobile users, such as the tech-savvy younger alumni, to simplifying the process for those less accustomed to online interactions, the school needed a versatile tool.
That’s why Nichols came to Boost My School. As the only educational fundraising platform designed specifically for K-12 alumni teams, Boost My School stands out in its ability to enhance event attendance. It achieves this by simplifying the registration process and ensuring that every page is optimized for mobile users.
After partnering with Boost My School, Nichols' first move was to create their registration page. The beauty of Boost lies in its automatic mobile optimization—no extra effort needed. Every page adjusts seamlessly to look perfect, regardless of the screen size. With mobile optimization sorted, Nichols focused on promoting their reunion in ways that catered to mobile viewers. They kicked off their campaign with Facebook posts, starting in January with a save-the-date post and continuing with additional promotions in March and April leading up to the June reunion.
Social media isn't the only avenue demanding mobile optimization; surprisingly, print appeals do too. Boost My School equips every page with an automatically generated QR code that can be downloaded and added to print materials in Canva or any other design tool. Since the code can only be scanned with a phone camera, mobile optimization becomes a crucial element in reaching registrants through printed promotional materials.
Lastly, Boost addressed Nichols School's challenge of simplicity. An overly complex or lengthy registration process can deter up to 70% of potential attendees. Recognizing this, when building their registration on Boost, Nichols leveraged Boost's segmented forms feature. They created separate forms, each with unique links, for every class attending the reunion. This ensured that when someone from the class of '73 signed up for their 50th reunion, their registration form automatically included free tickets to the 50th reunion dinner.
Upon teaming up with Boost and harnessing its mobile optimization and simplicity features, Nichols School reaped immediate rewards. Out of 303 attendees, a substantial 60% accessed the registration page via a mobile device. Impressively, 40% of all clicks from promotional materials originated from Facebook.
Boost's mobile optimization features, requiring no involvement from the alumni and events team, allowed Nichols to redirect their efforts. They could concentrate on efficiently managing multiple events, fostering offline buzz and engagement, all while preserving their sanity.
